QTW 83 - Localizing the QTW Installer (27-September-96)

Q For our end users' convenience, I would like to provide a Japanese installer for QuickTime for Windows 2.1.2 instead of using the standard English installer. Is there one available or can I modify the standard installer?

A Apple does not currently supply any localized versions of QTW. Regional offices are normally responsible for launching localization efforts.

Full localization support did not make it into QuickTime for Windows 2.1.2; however, all installer text strings are stored as resources within the executable. We are now allowing developers to edit the resources in QTINSTAL.EXE and QTINST32.EXE in order to do their own localization. Only the text strings may be edited. There is no documentation available to assist in identifying which resource strings appear in which dialog boxes. All translation must be done in-place in a resource editor such as AppStudio or Workshop.
